Denton Roller Derby Owner Accused of Stealing Nearly $1 Million

|

A. Campbell, the owner of a Denton roller derby rink is accused of bilking a company for nearly $1 million. Campbell, 40, of Trophy Club, was in the Tarrant County Jail on Aug. 20, after being accused of stealing over $200,000 and defrauding a Bedford company out of $941,600 over an eight-year period.

Campbell, who often goes by her derby name, "Kung Pow," was formerly the general manager of Denton's roller derby league, North Texas Derby Revolution, according to NTDR officials.

An arrest warrant was obtained by the Star-Telegram, which says that Campbell may have used some of the money for debt and child support, and to buy Quad Roller Derby in Denton.

Police Lt. David Smith said in an email that about $25,000 was seized from her bank account and the court will be determining whether the money was connected to the theft.

Campbell's Arrest Shocks Roller Derby Community

Campbell was hired by Ameritrans, a nationwide transportation service, and she worked her way up to handling the company's payroll and accounts.

In February, the owner of Ameritrans was suspicious as to why the family business wasn't prospering. After asking a retired CPA friend to investigate, the CPA discovered that Campbell wrote herself seven checks, totaling $33,000 from the business account, and she had forged some of the signatures.

In July, McLeod and the CPA confronted her and she admitted to stealing the money and using it to pay debt and child support.

Campbell is accused of stealing $941,600. She allegedly took the money every two weeks during her pay period since starting her job in 2008, until she was fired in July 2015.

Detectives believe that she used some of the money to purchase the House of Quad Roller Derby in Denton, which she bought in 2012.

In addition to her roller derby career, Campbell was a personal trainer at Stroud's Fitness in Hurst, and she is a body builder. When her Bedford office was cleaned out, officials found what they believe to be steroids in her belongings, the Star-Telegram reported.
